Chefs’ tip #6

Shopping for chicken

How you shop for chicken is just as important as how you cook it. Here's what you need to know.

  • Always look for chicken that has an even colour with no blemishes or bruises. The meat should look moist and plump, and have a neutral smell.
  • Check that the packaging hasn’t been damaged in any way. Remember to check the sell-by-date too.
  • When you buy frozen chicken, make sure the meat is frozen solid without any soft areas where it has begun to defrost.
